It’s said that design can make or break a title. It’s not a joke.
Note: If you’re an author looking for a designer or new to publishing, read about how book covers are usually designed with this overview at Penguin UK. If you’re self-publishing, we’ll work directly together.
Process
2-4 design drafts submitted to client after project begins, following schedule established at outset.
Unlimited revisions. You read that correctly: it’s impossible to limit revisions to one or two rounds. We’ll work together to get it perfect.
Proofs delivered to client in PDF form. Printed proofs available at an extra charge.
Final files uploaded to cloud, or optionally burned to a flash drive and sent to client. (Giles will upload press-ready output files directly to your printer.)
Rates
Covers start at $750. That’s a 6×9 trade paperback, with all imagery and a clear design direction supplied by the publisher or author.
Jackets start at $1000. That’s a hardcover jacket with flaps, plus design for the unjacketed book’s spine (with design for the unjacketed book’s front and back cover available at an extra fee), with all imagery and a clear design direction supplied.
Optionally, I’m happy to provide assistance in finding the best image and/or design direction. Charges vary.
Interior design depends entirely on the project; rates range from as little as $500 for text-only titles to $5000+ for long and/or complicated projects. (A World Without Reality, pictured above, was in this latter category — see more from that project.)
Optional Extras
Custom photography. Take your project to the next level with custom photography for cover, jacket or interior. Prices vary.
Marketing materials. Need print ads or online banners? Available for a low, per-item fee.
Author or publisher branding. Especially useful for self-publishers, this allows you to present professionally. Available items include logos, brochures, advertisements, and much more. Prices vary.
Notes regarding payment
Cash or personal or business checks welcome. Some businesses and educational institutions use purchase orders, which are also welcome.
Electronic payment is often easier, but there will be a 3–5% extra fee, depending on the client’s preferred method of payment. Apple, Square and PayPal accepted.
