Terrell Sandefur and (Kids) Company

Terrell’s been mentioned here many times, most recently last week when he hosted Mark Brooker’s good-bye party at his downtown Macon gallery, the SoChi.

I returned there this afternoon to do a portrait session of him together with his two kids, in search of a photograph for a Macon Food and Culture magazine article on Father’s Day.

Terrell wanted a shot outside, on the sidewalk, which promoted not only Father’s Day, but downtown. Happy to oblige…:

There are six varieties to choose from, in fact, all good.

The real magic, though, happened inside:

A rare four-star photograph, one of two from today. [Yesterday, now. —Ed.] Statistically, in 2008, four-star-or-better (out of a possible five) photographs happened .003% of the time — so to get two, in one session, is remarkable. Thank you!

The other is a shot of just the two kids — but nearly perfect (IMHO) in lighting, setting, focus and depth-of-field, and, especially, the interplay between siblings who genuinely care for each other:

The gallery also includes some photographs of the kids on their own, including this one I really like of Nina:

Meanwhile, Wyatt wants to be a photographer. Since it was raining, I had the D300 with me as a backup (along with a couple of flash units, should the weather prevent the planned outdoor shots), but almost immediately decided to ditch the flashes, stick with natural light, and give him the second camera.

He took to it like a duck to water:

Closing out the set, the third of his posted photographs … rocks:

Well done, Wyatt!

Tremendous fun, too, which I feel shows in the entire set. Thanks to all the Sandefurs for a great afternoon.

Note: For best viewing, do the slideshow option, with the captions turned on. Enjoy.

Up next: Took literally a dozen photographs at tonight’s Cocktail Hour, which I’ll get to posting at least one or two of ASAP. Then, finally, over the weekend, the Garden Tour photographs and anything else I can get to. No, really…;)
