On Savannah … and an Anniversary
Three years ago today, I borrowed my friend Gerald’s Canon Digital Rebel to get some “extra” shots from his wedding.
It was from that experience, without any doubt, that I realized the potential of today’s digital photography. [And only three years ago. My, how we've grown.... —Ed.]
Thus, it’s a great pleasure to use a digital photograph to honor that same couple, on their third anniversary:

G&A’s Third, Paula Deen’s, Savannah
It was my first visit to Savannah, despite having lived in Georgia for four-plus years — and I totally loved it. What a great city.
Gerald and I have been there since Monday, dodging rain showers and braving the cold wind. (I have to ask: what happened to late-May weather in Georgia this week…? Sheesh.)
We’re working on a new project I’ll tell you about soon — but which we’re both excited about, and both shooting like mad to make work. Together, we topped two thousand photographs in the time we were in town, and would probably have taken more if the weather had been better.
So, we examined details. And those very few moments of sun:

After Autumn arrived, and we all took in the “celebrity buffet” lunch, I headed back to Macon, while Gerald and Autumn were to enjoy their anniversary — then head on to Charleston, S.C., for more fun. Gerald is probably going to take some more photographs, too, if time allows…;)
Meanwhile, back in Savannah, I was especially impressed with how well old and new co-existed. There’s some strikingly modern architecture among the Victorian row houses and Southern columns, and, along the waterfront, schooners in front of a huge, cable-stayed bridge:

We also visited Fort Jackson, south of the city. Designed to protect a burgeoning Savannah from pirates, then, later, the American civil war, its orientation provides a great field of fire across the river — in cases of invasion.
Even by container ship, filled with empire-ruining flat-panel TVs and other modern, globally-based conveniences…:

Great couple of days, and more about that unnamed project I mentioned soon. Many thanks to Gerald for his intelligence, advice, photography, and good company. (You, too, Autumn!)
Please, don’t fear (or harass): I promise, I’ll finish up on the back photographs before spending more time with these. Plus, I’ve got a portrait session tomorrow afternoon, and the usual Thursday Cocktail Hour in here somewhere. Stay tuned! (And, as always, thanks for stopping by.)

Thanks, man. I, too, had a great time (and am still having it). Great photos. I can’t wait to see more.
