Honesty: You bet there are regrets
Regrets, specifically, came up in four different conversations tonight.
Wow.
Fine — let’s address it, head-on.
My name is Giles Hoover. In a former life, I was a book designer.
A good one, in fact: I knew Chip Kidd (ask Carey, or Google); I did covers and jackets apenty (some well-known, most not); I was on several occasions interviewed by The New York Times; my book design weblog, Foreword, had more than two million page views in 2006, the year before I quit — and was the #1 return in Google for “book design”; etc.; etc.
Then the crisis happened: I got divorced, and, well, everything changed.
Fast forward to 2008. I’d rather be known as a photographer, and have … well, hung out a shingle: Giles Hoover, Photographer.
I loved book design, truly. But, I’ve found something I love more: photography.
Am I going to make it to #1, like I did in book design? Hell, no. But I’m going to have fun trying.
Thanks for stopping by. Truly, appreciated.

So sad to hear about the divorce, but am glad to see you back in action on the web, and to hear about your new ventures. I’ve been checking back often on Foreword, and have been wondering where you have been!
