Sapelo 2010
Please note: After eight months stuck working on the house, I got on the road. In other words, I’ve got three months’ worth of photography trips to post — and will do just that over the next few weeks. Thanks for checking back.
Sapelo is one of my favorite places on Earth. My good friends Phillip and Neecee organize this trip every year; this time, it was earlier than usual — but absolutely no less welcome.
Resulting in this photograph, of something almost two hundred years old:

The Beacon of Sapelo
…If for no other reason than someone caught a reverse of the scene. Nice. (Thanks, John.)
Seriously: while last year’s photography was more about people, this year’s was more about the place — like this:

First Night Sunset
August on the Georgia coast can be hot — especially this summer, which has been sweltering — and this past weekend … certainly was. Showers, while refreshing, were actually useless; you were able to be “clean” for, oh, three seconds.
But:

Cabretta Camping
An amazing place, period.
That’s just the campground. A few miles away, there’s a pretty fantastic house. Now part of the state park, it was once owned by tobacco magnate RJR Reynolds:

Mansion Curves
Oh, and there’s this in the front yard:

An Arm and a Leg
Probably my favorite photograph from this year’s trip.
Many thanks to all who joined us this weekend — great, great time. As usual.
