Sapelo People (and Dogs)
Sapelo Island, off the coast of Georgia, has become one of my favorite places to go. It’s relaxing, it’s peaceful, and, at the beach we stay at, it’s possible to see for miles and miles — in either direction — without seeing a house or any sort of development.
Ultimately, however, it’s as much about the folks with whom I share that experience, not just the space itself. Organized yearly by my good friends Phillip and Neecee, I missed last year’s — so getting out there this year was extra special. You could even say that nearly everyone needed it pretty badly.
Thus, despite a downpour, all was good while the ferry took us out to the island. Look at those smiles:

My favorite photograph from the trip, and the second taken — I kid you not — of almost five hundred. Talk about nailing it out of the gate!
Better still, by the time we’d arrived at the Sapelo dock, the sun had broken through. Indeed, the vacation gods smiled on us; it didn’t rain again until I was on my way back up I-16 towards Macon!
Better still, it offered great cloudscapes as backgrounds. For things like … romantic walks:

Nice.
The group had four dogs along, and they enjoyed both the camp and the beach — as Rock is here:

Several good shots of the folks along, too, including Manna:

Congrats on the pregnancy, Manna! Here’s looking forward to baby photographs….
Meanwhile, forty-two people (and dog) photographs posted in the 2009 Sapelo gallery. Enjoy.
More photographs, of Sapelo’s beach and beauty, will be posted up later in the fall. Up next, however, some stuff from the great state of Maine. Stay tuned!

Excellent work Giles. I’m glad the chronicling of this trip is commensurate with it’s awesomeness.
